Challinor Requests Provincial Noise Camera Pilot For Milton
Town of Milton Ward 2 Councillor John Challinor II has requested that the Government of Ontario partner with Mlton to host a pilot project that tests the ability of automated noise enforcement technology to detect, record and support enforcement against excessive vehicle noise — whether cars, trucks or motorcycles.
Three years ago, Mr. Challinor and Ward 2 Regional Councillor Rick Malboeuf requested the federal and Ontario governments to revise their current regulations to lower the maximum noise levels permitted for all vehicles, but no progress has been made.
“Excessive vehicle noise is damaging the quality of life of all Miltonians and Halton Regional Police Service, for purely practical reasons, is hard-pressed to effectively deal with noisy vehicles,” explained Mr. Challinor. “If noise cameras are as effective as they appear to be in other jurisdictions in North America, they may be the answer in Ontario — and Milton is a willing partner in a pilot project because of the quality of life benefits I believe it will afford all Miltonians.”
Mr. Challinor’s request came in the form of a motion that was seconded by Mr. Malboeuf and approved by Milton Council. CR
