Challinor, Khalqi Encourage Rooming House Legislation for Milton
Town of Milton Ward 2 Councillor John Challinor II and Ward 3 Councillor Adil Khalqi are encouraging Milton Council to approve a motion in September that would see Town staff return in 2026 with legislation designed to control the establishment of rooming houses in Milton.
Also known as multi-tenant houses, room houses are buildings where at least four rooms are rented out to individuals who do not live together as a single household, but typically share common areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
Mssrs. Challinor and Khalqi have examples in their wards of single detached dwellings that are being improperly converted into rooming houses. These structures could leave tenants vulnerable to injury or death in the event of a fire.
They also create concerns in neighbourhoods related to illegal parking, property congestion and frequent noise disturbances. CR
