MTO invited to address Council about Hwy 401 noise barrier installation
Seconded by Ward 2 Regional Councillor Rick Malboeuf, I successfully put forward a motion before Milton Council requesting that Ontario Ministry of Transportation senior staff appear before Milton Council to discuss the funding and installation of a noise barrier along the south side of the 401, between James Snow Parkway and Regional Road 25.
Given that Highway 401 will widen from six lanes to 10 lanes by 2022, including an HOV lane, and given that other major highways through such communities as Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville and St. Catherine’s have had noise barriers installed adjacent to their residential areas, I felt that it was only fair that Milton receive this consideration. Unfortunately, it is not currently in the Ministry’s construction plan to undertake this work.
West Corrider Constructors, a joint venture company, has been contracted by the Ministry and Infrastructure Ontario to design, build and finance the Highway 401 widening project, which stretches 18 kilometres from the Credit River on the east to Regional Road 25 on the west. CR
