Milton Council Supports Challinor’s Motion To Cut Government Red Tape
Seconded by Mike Cluett, Regional Councillor, Ward 3, and supported by all members of Milton Council, I successfully brought forward a motion that asks staff to report back to Council in March 2019 with a list of provincial regulations that impede the Town of Milton’s ability to effectively serve its citizens, operate more efficiently and better plan for the future.
The fact of the matter is that, over time, successive Provincial governments have made it financially and operationally difficult for the Town of Milton to deliver programs and services to its various publics as effectively and efficiently as the Town deems appropriate. All departments that make up the Town of Milton will identify those specific pieces of provincial legislation that most severely financially and operationally impair their abilities to achieve their stated mandates and should be rescinded or revised.
Town staff report will back to Council with their findings, including identifying financial and service-level impacts, so that Council can communicate these concerns in a timely fashion to the Premier of Ontario, the Cabinet Minister and Ministry responsible, the Member of Provincial Parliament for Milton, the Association of
Municipalities of Ontario, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Regional Municipality of Halton, area municipalities and other agencies, boards and commissions, where appropriate. CR
