Residential Roads Becoming Safer
Following recommendations by Town of Milton Councillor John Challinor II, other members of Milton Council and Town staff, infrastructure is gradually being added over the next four years to Milton’s residential roads that will make them safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
For example, pedestrian crossovers near schools on major collector roads will receive raised crosswalks, neighbourhood speed limits will be reduced to
40 km/h, automated speed enforcement will be implemented on major local thoroughfares and additional traffic calming measures will be introduced, where appropriate.
In Ward 2, four neighbourhoods will receive speed limit reductions and one raised crosswalk in 2025, five neighbourhoods will receive the same in 2026, three neighbourhoods will get these safety features in 2027 and five neighbourhoods will have these safety features added in 2028. At that point, all Ward 2 neighbourhoods will have this safety infrastructure in place.
Specifically, the first raised crosswalk will be added at Woodward Avenue and Wilson Drive in 2025, followed by Tupper Drive and Bussel Crescent in 2026, Woodward Avenue and Robarts Drive, Dixon Drive and Hatton Crossing, Dixon Drive and Sprucedale Lane, and Dixon Drive and Cobban Road in 2027 and Coxe Boulevard and Sam Sherratt Trail in 2028.
Red flashing beacons above stop signs are being added at the intersection of Five Side Road and Boston Church Road in August. School zone flashers at secondary schools will be installed on Main Street between Thompson Road and Harris Boulevard by September. Speed cushions will be installed on Woodward Avenue later this year. Rectangular rapid flashing beacons will be installed on pedestrian crosswalks on Laurier Avenue at Laurier Park and Laurier Avenue at Sam Sherratt Trail.
Property owners who experience speeding on their streets can either contact Halton Regional Police Services directly by filing an online complaint at https://www.haltonpolice.ca/en/services-and-reporting/report-a-traffic-concern.aspx or contact Mr. Challinor and file their concerns with him. CR
