Challinor Requests Property Tax Assessment Update
Given that an up-to-date property tax assessment system is critical to ensuring that the province of Ontario remains competitive and local municipal services and education are properly funded, Ward 2 Local Councillor John Challinor II has asked the Government of Ontario to request the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) to undertake an update.
Mr. Challinor’s motion was seconded by Ward 1 Regional and Local Councillor Colin Best, who also serves as President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). It was approved unanimously by Milton Council.
Specifically, the Ontario Government is being asked to direct MPAC to conduct a province-wide assessment update based on a January 01, 2024, valuation date for utilization for a four-year cycle, beginning with the 2025 taxation year.
Earlier this year, the Government had announced that the 2020 assessment update had been postponed, meaning property assessments for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 taxation years would continue to be based on the fully phased-in January 01, 2016, current values. CR
